[ARCHIVED] SUMP PUMP NOTICE

*Notice*

Sump Pump Reminders

The City of Mitchell would like to remind the citizens to check their sump pumps to make sure that they are working properly.

8-9-5: CONDITIONS OF USE:

A. Use Required:

It shall be unlawful for any person or for the owner or occupant of any premises in the city to discharge or permit to be discharged or cause to be discharged into the public sanitary sewer any stormwater whatever from the roofs of buildings, from the overflow of cisterns, stormwater, surface water, ground water, footing drains, cooling water or unpolluted industrial process waters; and no person shall allow water to run to a sump and then allow said water to be pumped from there to the public sanitary sewer.

It is recommended sump pumps be drained to the curb. If possible, do not drain water in your backyard so you or your neighbor does not have to recycle the ground water.

Do not drain sump pumps into floor drains or into the sanitary sewer system. This may cause the sanitary sewer system to back up on you or your neighbors.
