Chief of Public Safety Lyndon Overweg

Chief Overweg grew-up in New Holland, SD and graduated from Dakota Christian High School in 1984. He then attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD and graduated from there in 1988 with a bachelors degree in sociology with a criminal justice emphasis. Shortly after graduating from DWU; Lyndon was hired by the City of Mitchell as a police officer and that is where his professional career as a law enforcement officer began. Lyndon has moved up the police ranks and was promoted to the following positions, Patrol officer, Detective, Detective Sergeant, Assistant Police Chief/Major, and Chief of Public Safety.

Lyndon is married and has 4 children.

Lyndon feels that Mitchell is a great place to live and work because the citizens of Mitchell take pride in their community and expect high quality in reference to Public Safety.


 Assistant Fire Chief Paul Morris

Assistant Fire Chief Paul Morris was born in Sioux Falls.  He grew up and attended schools in Platte and Mt. Vernon, graduating from Mt. Vernon in 1981.  After high school, Morris attended and graduated from Mitchell Technical Institute in the field of Electronic Communications.  He was subsequently employed by KORN/Q107 Radio, Wholesale Electronics and then back to Mitchell Technical Institute as an instructor in Electronic Communications.

In 1998 he was hired by the Davison County Ambulance and City of Mitchell Fire Department as a Paramedic/Firefighter.  He was promoted to Fire Captain in October of 2007 and to Assistant Fire Chief in January of 2010.

Paul and his wife Brenda currently reside in Mt. Vernon.  They have three grown children and one grandchild. 
 


Assistant Chief of Police Leon Baier

Assistant Chief of Police Leon Baier started in Law enforcement in 1982 as a part time police officer for the city of Parkston just 25 miles south of Mitchell.  In 1984 Baier took a full time officer position for the Parkston Police Department.  Baier was Chief of Police for 7 yrs while in Parkston.  In 1992 Baier joined the Mitchell Police Department where he moved up the ranks from Corp. to a Patrol Sgt. from 1996 to 2006.  In 2006, Baier was promoted to the rank of Major - Assistant Chief of Police.  Major Baier is married to wife Jane and they have two grown children who are in college.

Lieutenant Don Everson
                                                                        
Lt. Don Everson happily spent his childhood years in the town of Seneca located in Faulk County, South Dakota, where his father owned and operated a gas station. He grew up fixing flat tires, pumping gasoline and working in his family business. Lt. Everson graduated high school from Faulkton High School in 1989. He attended The University of South Dakota in Vermillion, where in 1993, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Criminal Justice. Lt. Everson worked as a carpenter's assistant throughout his college years.

Lt. Everson began his law enforcement career with The Mitchell Police Department in November, 1993 when he was hired as a Patrolman. He was promoted to the rank of Detective in August, 1997. Lt. Everson worked in that capacity, investigating criminal activity until he was promoted to the rank of Detective Lieutenant in October, 2006. In this capacity he supervises four criminal investigators; including one drug investigator, and one investigative secretary. In his career with the Mitchell Police Department, he has served under four different Police Chiefs and two different investigative supervisors.

Lt. Everson and his family live in Mitchell. Lt. Everson is grateful to live and work in a great community such as Mitchell.


Communications Supervisor Marlene Haines

Marlene Haines has been the Communications Supervisor for the Mitchell Dept. of Public Safety since October 1990. 

Marlene supervises a staff of 8 full-time and two part-time communication specialists. 

Marlene and her husband have three grown children.  She and her husband live in Mitchell
